soil and waterDay 10, Week 2:  A Pure Heart (Soil and Water)

Today’s scripture passage:

Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.  Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.  Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.  Psalm 51:10-12 NIV

When I am brought face-to-face with my sin, I typically respond in three unhealthy ways:  denial, rationalization, or self-condemnation.  In this psalm, David provides a wonderful example of how to respond to sin in a healthy manner.  He is humble; he doesn’t deny or rationalize his sin, and he doesn’t beat himself up.  He depends fully on God to make everything right again by cleansing, drawing near, restoring joy, and granting an obedient spirit.  This is the positive, peaceful, straightforward approach to dealing with sin.

Today’s reflection:

How do you respond when confronted or convicted with sin?
