basinDay 3, Week 1:  Service (Basin)

Today’s scripture passage:

Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them.  Not so with you.  Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave – just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.  Matthew 20:25-28 NIV

Are you competitive by nature?  Jesus’ disciples certainly were competitive, at least for recognition.  They squabbled from time to time about which one of them was the greatest.  Each time Jesus corrected them, saying they should be more willing to serve than to rule over others.  He uses himself as an example, One who came to serve and give, not to be served.  God deeply values a giving and humble heart.

Today’s reflection:

In what ways can you give more often from a servant’s heart?  Who can you give of your time today?
